In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Hummer EV Pickup are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The R1T doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The R1T doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s Surround Vision offers optional integrated front and rear camera washers, ensuring clear, all-weather visibility without the need for manual cleaning. In contrast, the Rivian R1T lacks camera washers, requiring you to manually clean the cameras for optimal performance.

Both the Hummer EV Pickup and the R1T have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup weighs 1828 to 2082 pounds more than the Rivian R1T. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are almost 34 times as many GMC dealers as there are Rivian dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Hummer EV Pickup’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that GMC vehicles are better in initial quality than Rivian vehicles. With 65 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks GMC higher than Rivian.

For better traction, the Hummer EV Pickup has larger tires than the R1T (305/70R18 vs. 275/60R20). The Hummer EV Pickup’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the R1T (305/70R18 vs. 275/50R22).

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Rivian R1T only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The R1T doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Hummer EV Pickup is 5.6 inches wider in the front and 5.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the R1T.

For better maneuverability, the Hummer EV Pickup’s turning circle is 7.8 feet tighter than the R1T’s (37.1 feet vs. 44.9 feet).

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard rear cargo step, which folds out and allows for much easier access to the cargo area. The Rivian R1T doesn’t offer a rear cargo step.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the R1T’s (12000 vs. 7700 pounds).

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard Keyless Open and Start allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the tailgate, and start the truck, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. An advanced key system standard on the R1T doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard side window demisters help clear frost or condensation from the side windows in the winter. The R1T doesn’t even offer side window demisters, so the driver may have to wipe the windows from the outside to gain side vision.

When the Hummer EV Pickup is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The R1T’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The R1T doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
